Toggle Clamps

Toggle Clamps

Toggle Clamps are based on an "over-centre" design which mechanically locks the clamp in the clamped-up position.  They are available in many different styles and a large variety of physical sizes and holding forces.  Toggle Clamps are ideal for use on jigs and fixtures to ensure fast accurate workholding.

There are several basic types:

Grippers

Pneumatic grippers

Pneumatic grippers & mini chucks are available in a range of sizes.

Model types include:

  • 2-jaw parallel
  • 2-jaw fulcrum
  • 180 degree
  • rack style parallel
  • 3-jaw radial
Sensors can be fitted to most models.

SwingClamps

Pneumatic swingclamps

Swingclamps rotate through 90 degrees as they retract to clamp the workpiece.

Clockwise and anti-clockwise models are available.  Lewis have both pneumatically and hydraulically powered Swingclamp versions in a range of sizes.  Sensors can be fitted.

For other types of pneumatic clamping, see pneumatic toggle clamps.

Pneumatic Cylinder Clamping

Various styles of pneumatic cylinders can be used in clamping applications.  The types best suited include guided cylinders, flat style cylinders and slide-rail or slide-table types.

Vacuum Clamping

Vacuum pump & suction pad clamping

Pneumatic vacuum pumps and suction cups can be used to clamp or grasp items whilst they are being worked on or moved.

Vacuum pumps come in a range of sizes and are small enough to be located close to the point where the vacuum is required.  Switching can be pneumatic or electric.

Suction cups come in a wide variety of sizes, shapes and materials to suit the requirements of different applications.  It is important to consider various parameters like the weight, texture, surface area and porosity of the object to be suctioned when choosing the right cup & pump combination.
